School Background

The South Seas Film and Television School was initially set up in 1992 by Arcadian Films Ltd, owned by Gerben and Nerida Cath. Established in 1984, this NZ Film and Television production company has produced a wide range of programmes ranging through corporate and educational videos to television commercials and children’s programmes.

The rewarding experience of providing work-related training for young people on various productions led to the decision to provide a full-time film and television training course. It also answered a clearly defined need for such a course in the Auckland area. At the end of 1993, the management of all the school’s operations and activities were taken over by South Seas Film & Television School Ltd. This company was specifically set up to further the development and effectiveness of the school and its courses. The shareholding of South Seas Film & Television School Ltd was also expanded to include David Coddington who had been with the company since its inception.

To ensure the ongoing financial security and independence of the school and to comply with the stringent New Zealand Ministry of Education financial reporting requirements, South Seas Film & Television School Ltd has audited accounting procedures including an audited independent trust account to process all financial transactions for its courses. These and other effective measures protect both NZ and International Student fee payments.

Finally, South Seas Film & Television School Ltd guarantees to adhere to all the guidelines established for Private Training Establishments by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority and the requirements of the NZ Ministry of Education and Tertiary Education Commission.
