About UC

The University is like a miniature city designed specially for students, with everything you need all on one site. The campus is attractively landscaped, with plenty of space to relax with friends between lectures. It is just 10 minutes drive from the airport.

Some of our more well-known graduates include Prime Minister John Key, children’s author Margaret Mahy and comedian Rhys Darby. Our graduates also include Nobel prize-winner Ernest Rutherford andSir Apirana Ngata, New Zealand’s first Māori graduate.

UC has one of the most diverse and vibrant student cultures of any New Zealand university. The University has more than 12,000 enrolled students, drawn from countries around the world.

There are over 118,000 alumni living and working in countries all over the world, including prime ministers, Nobel Prize winners and leading professionals in all spheres of life.

Faculties and programmes

UC has seven faculties:

We offer over 100 programmes, from Foundation Studies to doctoral studies, and over 150 disciplines, from Accounting to Zoology.

Facilities

Spacious, park-like campus ten minutes drive from Christchurch International Airport.

Nearly 2,000 students live on campus in a fun, supportive environment within six halls of residence.

Everything you need is on campus: study and research facilities including five libraries, accommodation, and recreation and leisure facilities.
